65 Mile Bike Ride July 19th, 2008

Fitness

Okay, let’s see if I can make a bike ride dramatic.

Two days of really poor sleep left me in not so good condition for my planned 65 to 70 miles today.  Spotty sleep last night didn’t help.  The alarm got me out of bed at 5:30AM.  I had packed everything in my car the night before as I was headed to Springboro to meet Mike Myers and head out from his home.

We hit the road at 6:30AM straight into humidity so thick that riding started out quite difficult. I couldn’t tell if I was sweating or condensing in the 64 degree air. With every uphill, and this could be as small as the highway overpass, my legs felt like cement.  They simply would not go around.  By the end of the day I would have needed every ounce of the 130 ounces of Gatorade and water I had with me.

Mike and I rode 31 miles together before he needed to head to his son’s practice.  I drove to Middletown to complete another 34 on roads familiar to me.

Nope, I can’t make a bike ride dramatic.  It sounded much better this morning when I narrated this in my head.  In any case, as I get ready for my 100 mile ride in September, I need to keep increasing the mileage.

Here’s the Springboro and Middletown routes.
